Vamos Isaac!!

….. IN ENGLISH…..

Tomorrow, Isaac Vega will be traveling to Ecuador to represent Costa Rica & Witch’s Rock Surf Camp in one of the biggest surfing tours that exists in Central America, the ALAS (Latin-Americas Association of Professional Surfers). This will be the first stop of the 2014 Tour, and chances are it will feature the large waves that were just breaking in Hawai’i, California and other places around the world (today right here in Playa Tamarindo the waves were amazing and still getting better as the day went on). According to forecasts, the famed right-hander at Engabao could see waves in the 10-12 foot range during the Reef Classic Guayas. That’s over double-overhead on the faces!

Not just anyone can surf in the ALAS tour, and Isaac takes with him years of experience in surfing these types of high-level professional surf contests. Isaac has also been to Ecuador before with the Costa Rica national surf team.

What’s your main motivation for competing in this contest?

This is the first tour stop of the year, so I have to give it all I have. I really love the idea of representing my country and all of Tamarindo. I also really get motivated just from competing at that level, surfing the types of waves we’ll be surfing, and just getting ti know new places and new people. There’s a lot to get motivated about.

Who do you see as your biggest competition?

There’s really so many good surfers from many different countries and all of the competitors are tough. But I feel strong & ready!

How is the wave up there where you will be competing?

It’s a right point break, lots of barrels and kind of fast. It’s a great wave to compete at, to show the level of surf that exists in Latin-America. The conditions in surfing are always changing though so you have to be ready to surf no matter what comes at you.

Are you ready? Have you been training? What do you do to train in a tournament like this?

I’m ready, I feel good with the training plan I have. I’ve really worked hard on my physical condition, and also on my mental strategy.

Aside from WRSC, who else are you sponsored by?

FCS fins and DHD Surfboards. I also pay with money I make from working.

Who else from Costa Rica will be going?

I’ll be traveling with a life-long friend, Jason Torres. We’ve surfed & competed together since we were kids, both nationally and internationally. Jason’s surfing is awesome and we really push & support each other.

We could’t be more proud to sponsor Isaac as he pursues his dream. We know first-hand how much his surfing has been progressing as of late, and he’s an incredible all-around representative of Witch’s Rock Surf Camp.

Let’s go Isaac!
